Ireland’s Data Protection Commission has imposed a €530 million fine on TikTok for breaching GDPR regulations through unauthorized transfers of European user data to China. The DPC issued a six-month compliance ultimatum, threatening to suspend data flows to China if unresolved.

TikTok initially misrepresented its data storage practices during the investigation, later acknowledging some European user data was indeed housed on Chinese servers. The company is contesting the penalty, citing recent security enhancements under its Project Clover initiative.
